LEARNING TO DRIVE IN BRISBANE

1

There's no better place to start learning to drive than the very basics. It's not just a matter of only comfort, it's a matter of your safety. Mylife Driving school presents this collection of videos to help you along this journey of learning how to drive.

Lesson #1.

THE BASICS: LEARNING TO DRIVE!

What are the best practices that you need to follow before you start driving on the first day and every time thereafter?

How should you position your hands while driving? Can you rest your elbow at the window pane? Should your legs be stretched out to the accelerator and brake pads or be slightly bent instead? How do you adjust the rearview mirror? What angle should the side mirrors be at?

The video highlights the basic steps learner drivers must take every time they get into the driver’s seat. Doing so will not only make you comfortable but also ensure your safety on the road.

Lesson #2

THE BASICS: SEAT BELT ADJUSTMENT

We all know that seatbelts reduce the risk of injury in case of a road accident and help save lives. But did you know that wearing a poorly adjusted seatbelt is almost next to not wearing one at all?

To ensure that the effectiveness of wearing a seatbelt, it is essential to adjust it properly according to your height and body type. This video shows the right way of fitting a seatbelt so that it can protect you against harmful movement that may result during a collision or when you suddenly press the brakes.

Remember this lesson applies every time you go on a drive, and not just while you are taking driving classes in Brisbane.

Lesson #3

THE BASICS: ADJUST THE CARS MIRRORS

In this video, we explain the function and importance of adjusting the side and rearview mirrors correctly. When positioned correctly, the side and rearview mirrors give you the widest view possible. They minimize blind spots and help you see what’s happening beside and behind your car while you remain comfortably seated behind the wheel.

Using these mirrors properly is a key way to stay safe on the road. So, before you start your driving lessons in Brisbane, make sure that you develop a habit of checking the car mirrors first. Our accredited driving instructors will do a short activity to help you learn how to adjust the car mirrors for maximum visibility and safety.

Lesson #4

THE BASICS: UNDERSTANDING THE CARS CONTROLS.

For those learning to drive in Brisbane for the first time, the dashboard and plenty of car controls may seem rather intimidating initially. To be able to concentrate fully on the road while driving, it’s vital to know all car controls like the back of your hand.

In this video, we present a short activity that you can do with your instructor or any friend or family member for that matter to familiarise yourself with the dashboard controls. Remember to do this with the ignition turned OFF and under the supervision of someone who knows how to drive well.

Lesson #5

THE BASICS: RESIDENTIAL SCANNING AND HAZARD DETECTION

Scanning your surroundings and anticipating and detecting hazards well in time to react safely is by far the most important defensive driving technique. This skill comes with experience but there are certain tips you can follow to drive safely and responsibly at all times.

Watch this video to understand the potential hazards that you need to look out for as a learner driver. It also illustrates the safety aspects that your instructor will be focusing on as you learn to drive in Brisbane.
